JUNE 2 - Professor Phillips returns to JHU

On June 2, 2011 - Professor Phillips will return to the campus of Johns Hopkins University - Washington, DC Campus - to teach his GOVERNMENT RELATIONS and LOBBYING class in the School of Communications. This is a Graduate Program Class and is the cutting edge of Lobbying Studies.

The class registration has begun and it looks to be another outstanding semester !

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME !

Wow - It s has been a while since my last posting. Been very busy with the Lobbyist Work that must be done for clients and working the Halls of Congress to move America Forward !

Even with all that work - THERE MUST BE BASEBALL ! Yes, the season has turned and Spring is here. We have start the 2011 MLB Season. I am a very proud NATIONALS fan and looking forward to a great season.

BASEBALL IS AMERICA's PASTIME !

I had the great opportunity to go to all three OPENING DAYS in the greater Washington area. Yes - Ron Phillips was at Nationals Park (NATIONALS) in Washington, DC - Ron Phillips was at Citizens Park (PHILLIES) in Philadelphia, PA - Ron Phillips was at Camden Yards (ORIOLES) in Baltimore, MD !! This was the first time that I had hit the trifecta of Opening Day Baseball - it also just happen to work out schedulewise with MLB.

Great times were had - Spring is here - Baseball has begun - The World is right today !

The Three Professors

There is nothing like spending a Labor Day Weekend with good friends and good cigars. This weekend - I did just that. Two good friends of mine: Mr. Scott Talan - Associate Professor - American University and Mr. Don Tighe - Adjunct Professor - George Washington University - spent a little time together enjoying fine beer (although they had the beer - I had Grey Goose), fine cigars and beautiful weather.

Our Cigar of choice for that day was the HC Series - Connecticut Shade Cigar. Very full mild smoke. As we puffed - the rich flavor and wonderful aroma filled the air of the Sofitel Hotel - just around the corner of the White House. My friends and I appreciated the wonderful flavors (fine aged tobacco - with a hint of nut flavor) of the HC and remarked on what a perfect cigar for a perfect day.

As our cigars smoked away the THREE PROFESSORS talked about our classes this Fall Semester and challenges that lay before us. We discuss University Facilities of our three Schools and students who fill our classes. I sat back and thought - how interesting my life has turned to be in such a conversation in the Nation's Capitol. It seems like yesterday when I first arrived back to Washington, DC from Florida. In life you can never be sure just which way one's life will turn - for me it has been very good.

I laughed at the thought that I would be spending a day like this. I could I have never imaged to be in Washington, DC - as a successful lobbyist - with two good friends with some fine cigars on a beautiful summer day discussing College Courses that I am teaching back in my early years as a student at Florida State University.

Life is interesting - Enjoy the ride !

Here is additional information on our HC Cigar of choice for that day:

PHILLIPS Family in the News !

It’s all in the Phillips family

Ron Phillips, a longtime Lake County politico, wrote this morning from his home in Washington, D.C. – Mecca for folks like him — about his mom and sister.

Phillips, who owns a lobbying and consulting firm, came by his political proclivity naturally.

His mother, former School Board member Georgia Phillips, has been for many years and still is the State Committeewoman of the Republican Party of Lake County. Ron Phillips was chair of the local Republican party from 1996 to 2000.

Now, sister Judi Phillips Jones is getting in on the act. She was elected State Committeewoman of the Democratic Party. Ron Phillips described his sister as a “committed liberal.” Phillips, on the other hand, could be fairly characterized as right-wing in the years he led the party in Lake County. One can only speculate on the lively dinner table conversation during get-togethers of the Phillips clan.

Still, Phillips wrote of his sister, ”I am very proud of her.”

George Mason University has a new Political Science Professor

Yes - It's true - George Mason University has hired a new Political Science Professor for the FALL 2010 Semester !

That's right - Professor Ron Phillips

I will be teaching an undergraduate class (Senior Level - 400) on "Politics and Mass Media" - believe me I have the personal political history to teach this class - LOL.

The course will study the 24 hour news cycle and how it effects politics. It will also look at the effects the media has on political campaigns.

Interesting - My Class has 68 Students - eek ! That is very big when you are use to teaching Graduate Level course with One Fifth that size.

I am very honored that GMU asked me to teach this course and will enjoy the lively exchanges with the students of the Old Dominion State. My class will be held on the main campus in Fairfax, VA.
